To help you break the ice at Texas hold’em poker, here are a few things to always remember
- Never allow you to forget the basics and get swept up in the excitement of playing Texas hold’em poker.
- The “hole cards†that you have been dealt, are the cards that will ultimately decide if you win the hand, the game of even an entire tournament. Neither underestimate nor overestimate their strengths.
- The face-up cards are shared by every player. Don’t just think what these cards have done to improve your hand. It is equally if not more important to try and analyze what these cards have done for your opponent.
- You can have the best hand in the game, but if you show even the slightest tick of emotion, assume that your opponents will run away as if the building is on fire. Keep your emotions in check!
- What makes a good hand? If you feel lucky you can “go into the flop†with a high pair upwards. Also if players have folded before you, then the odds increase in your favor. If it has been your turn to place a blind, you have nothing to lose by checking and going to the flop. If you have to rise, take another look at your hole cards.
- If you go into the flop, and your hand hasn’t reached its expectations, fold it immediately. Not always, but often!
- Don’t be afraid to check if you are first in line to bet after the flop. This can work even if your hand is weak or strong. If your opponents bet or check, you get a chance to bet or fold for free.
- If you find yourself still in the play after the turn card or river card, go with the flow. Watch your opponents and their reactions to you. Try to be inconsistent and difficult to read. If you constantly fold or raise, they will read you like a book
These are just a few tips that should help to make you a better Texas hold’em poker. Use them wisely and have a great time!
