As Texas holdem poker has grown in popularity over the last few years, then slowly but surely, more and more celebrities have been attracted to it. If you cast your eye over the tables at some of the major televised Texas holdem poker tournaments you will see a sprinkling of media stars not just making an appearance, but also taking part in the tournaments but also doing pretty well. Stars of the silver screen, television and sport are among those who have also discovered the thrills and intellectual stimulation that playing Texas holdem poker can bring.
One of the first celebs to discover Texas holdem poker was Jennifer Tilly, the squeaky voiced, statuesque star of screen and television who can hold her own with the best players on the circuit on a good day. She is, at least till now, the first celebrity to ever win a major Texas holdem poker tournament, the Ladies no-limit event at the World Series of Poker in 2005.
Others following Jennifer’s lead, but not necessarily for the money, are Hollywood heartthrob, Ben Affleck, who takes part in a lot of televised tournament, James Woods , well known star of television and the movies. Jason Alexander, the legendary “George Costanza†of the long running and now sadly defunct Seinfeld television series, is another among many who has shown his skill and enjoyment of the game.
Recently Jason got together with other celebrity Texas holdem poker lovers to organize a celebrity charity tournament. They have succeeded in raising some considerable donations form with the entertainment industry, as well as sports, media and for the poker circuit players and organizers. All prizes are donated to the favorite charities of the tournament winners and runners up. This is indeed a fine example of the positive aspects of playing Texas holdem poker and how the celebrities are both enjoying themselves whilst helping the less fortunate among us.
